Wind Turbine Wake Studies at Relevant Scales

Wind Turbine Wake Studies

The development of the turbulent wakes downstream of wind turbines is being studied in the UNH Flow Physics Facility, which provides a unique test environment due to its large size. Individual model wind turbines can be studied with minimal blockage effects and facilitate access to wind turbine wake physics at meaningful Reynolds numbers. Appropriately scaled wind turbine models of 1m diameter are being used. These studies provide reference data sets for numerical model validation and the development of wind farm control algorithms.
