Marine Biology

Overview

The University of New Hampshire has a long history of excellence in the field of marine biology and marine science. This degree is intended for students interested in marine and estuarine ecosystems and the organisms associated with them at all levels of inquiry.

The University of New Hampshire currently has around 30 faculty members with expertise in the field of marine biology. These faculty members have supervised an average of 20 graduate students each year for the past 20 years, resulting in over 100 M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. This success has been made possible by a consistent record of obtaining external funding from NOAA, NSF and other federal and state agencies, as well as the availability of the laboratories, equipment and infrastructure required for carrying out cutting edge research.  The proximity of UNH to both coastal and estuarine habitats greatly facilitates the ability of students to carry out either laboratory or field work on a daily basis.
