Outreach and Events
The School serves to integrate marine science and ocean engineering outreach and public education initatives at UNH. These activities have historically been led through some of our major research programs such as New Hampshire Sea Grant and the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping. Through the far-reaching efforts of the UNH Marine Docents and the marine education and extension specialists from New Hampshire Sea Grant, the University of New Hampshire is a national leader in delivering marine science education programs to students, teachers and the general public in New Hampshire and neighboring states.
The SMSOE Seminar Series focuses on interdisciplinary marine research, engaging the community, and promoting networking and idea sharing. We also advertise and support seminars, workshops and short courses hosted by our faculty and related departments. Check out our available programs!
The SMSOE and its affiliates host a number of free events for both the public and the UNH marine community. From Ocean Discovery Day to the SMSOE and N.H. Sea Grant's Research Symposiums, we promote education in marine science by sharing current research and keeping the public involved in everything UNH has to offer in marine biology, oceanography, and ocean engineering.
In addition to events, tours and seminars are available to school groups, families, and individuals hoping to learn more about Seacoast ecology and marine life. With strong programming support from CCOM, Jackson Laboratory, N.H. Sea Grant, and Shoals Marine Laboratory, there's a little something for everyone!
