The Piscataqua Region Estuaries Project (PREP) is hosted at Nesmith Hall on UNH’s Durham campus. The program is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Program’s National Estuary Program, a local/state/federal program established under the Clean Water Act with the goal of protecting and enhancing nationally significant estuarine resources. The PREP’s priorities include water quality improvements, shellfish resources, land protection and habitat restoration.

The program has four staff members: a director, a coastal scientist, a conservation program manager, and a community impact program manager. PREP serves 52 communities in the Piscataqua Region coastal watershed of New Hampshire and Maine. The area is home to the Hampton-Seabrook Estuary and the Great Bay Estuary, the largest estuary in New Hampshire.
