Graduate Studies in Marine Science
Why UNH?
Are you asking, why UNH? What is it about the University of New Hampshire that makes it the place that I want to go for my graduate studies in Marine Science? What distinguishes UNH from other institutions that I could attend? The answers have to do with great faculty, interdisciplinary research excellence, dynamic partnerships, and more...
Our Programs blend the best characteristics of a small New England college with a major research university through faculty who excel in both the classroom and the laboratory. With expertise ranging from lobster physiology and offshore structure engineering, to hydrothermal vent geochemistry, bio-optical oceanography, coastal mapping, fisheries aquaculture and estuarine ecology, our faculty bring a wealth of experience and a problem solving mentality to their students.
The Marine Program vessel fleet and numerous laboratories (e.g. the Jackson Estuarine Laboratory and the Coastal Marine Laboratory) are all within 15 miles of the main campus in Durham. This combination of facilities provides students with all of the attributes of university life along with easy access to laboratory and field sites for formal classes, independent research and informal educational opportunities.
Our Marine Research programs are world renown in earth, ocean and space system science, coastal ocean mapping, open ocean aquaculture and marine ecology. Strong partnerships with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) and private partners provide a robust research environment and nearly unlimited opportunities for students.
We encourage you to look deeper into the diverse programs and opportunities that UNH offers. You might be surprised by all the opportunities that UNH has to offer!
